In 2009, the Cape Verde Islands enchanted Geert with their warm climate, hospitable people, melodious tones of Coladera, Funana, and Morna music, but above all with their unmistakable authenticity. As a teacher, Geert organized internships for his students for 13 years, allowing him to discover every corner of 8 out of the 10 Cape Verdean islands. In one of those corners, Geert met Alaciny, and in 2018, Geert and Alaciny exchanged vows in the heart of Cape Verde. Afterward, Alaciny decided to temporarily leave her life in warm Cape Verde behind and work as a caregiver in a Belgian nursing home.

Cape Verde always stayed in their hearts, and the idea of permanently returning quickly took shape. When all brothers and sisters left the parental home, the idea emerged to breathe new life into the existing family house in the idyllic fishing village of Ponta Do Sol on the island of Santo Antão.
The name 'Luz da Lua' refers to the moon, just like the name of their daughter Luna. She embodies the essence of the boutique hotel; the future of the family, the family house, and in a broader perspective, the island.
Geert and Alaciny are often present on-site, but they manage their gem, which they gladly share with you, from Belgium. On-site, Jan Arryn, Geert's childhood friend and an experienced host, ensures an unforgettable stay. With 12 years of hotel experience as a chef and manager of 'a Beach Symphony' hotel in Kerala, India, and a background in tourism, hospitality, and catering, host & chef Jan knows exactly how to pamper guests.
